Essential Fatty Acids & Dietary Oils

Why do we call some of the fatty acid essential? Because we need them to live. EFAs play a part in almost every function of our body. They maintain healthy heart and arteries, maintain mood, keep our skin healthy, help relieve Diabetic neuropathy, keep cell membranes working properly etc. The deficiency of EFAs may result in loss of hair, behavioral disturbances, drying up of glands, heart and circulatory problems, weakness, dry skin and many other health problems. Since our organism cannot manufacture its own EFAs, we must ingest them through the foods we eat or take special nutrition products containing them.
